The Trustee directors of the Scheme, whether nominated by Sony or by members, have a legal duty to look after the interests of all members.
The current Trustee directors are shown below.
Richard joined Sony in 1993 in Pencoed as Financial Controller. He worked in both Bridgend and Pencoed until 2004 when he was transferred to Barcelona Factory.
In Barcelona he developed from EMCS Controlling to BCN Tec Managing Director, then returning to Weybridge as TV Operations Director in 2011.
Richard served on the Trustee Board previously until his transfer in 2004 and re-joined in 2013.
Howard joined Sony UK in January 1990 and held numerous roles in Marketing, Service and General Management within the UK Sales Company until 2003. He then spent three years as Managing Director of Sony Austria based in Vienna before returning to Weybridge in 2006 as Vice President, Sales and Marketing Strategy Group in Sony Europe. Howard left Sony in 2010 and now works as an Interim Director.
Howard was appointed to the Trustee Board in 2007 and as Deputy Chairman in September 2013, and also currently chairs the Investment Committee. He is married with two sons; hobbies include golf, good food, red wine and travelling.
May Martin (MND)
May joined Sony in 1988, initially as Facilities Manager at Thatcham. In 1992 she transferred to HR at Weybridge, where responsibilities included Pension Administration, Company Benefits & Insurances, International and UK Relocation and the Company Car Fleet. On leaving Sony in 2001, this wide portfolio of experience allowed May to set up her own consultancy from which she retired in 2015.
May was first appointed as a Member Nominated Director in 2011 and was reappointed in September 2016. She is currently Chair of the Communications Committee. May is also involved in a number of activities in her local community.
Ian Miller (Chairman)
Ian decided to take early retirement in April 2006, following 35 years employment with Sony. His last role was Channel Sales Director, Sony Europe.
Ian has been a member of the Trustee Board since 1995 and was appointed as Chairman in 2003.
The additional time he has available since retiring has allowed him to spend more time both on Pension Board issues, as well as his main pastime of transcribing 15th and 16th century choral music for the small a cappella group of which he is a member. He is married with two children and one grandchild.
Steve Southern (Professional Independent Trustee)
Steve is Sony’s Professional Independent Trustee. Steve is a Lawyer by profession, having spent over 15 years specialising in the subject of Pensions Law. Steve established his own Trustee business several years ago, and he and his colleagues act as Professional Independent Trustees to over 40 pension schemes in the UK.
Away from work, he is married with three (almost) grown up children, and spends his spare time helping out with local amateur football teams close to his home.
Tudor Thomas (MND)
Tudor joined Sony UK CRT plant in Bridgend in September 1985, initially as a mechanical engineer. Over the next 20 years, he held various engineering/quality positions, finally becoming CQC Manager.
In 2005, Tudor moved into the purchasing operations of Corus as Supplies Excellence Manager until 2009. This was followed by roles with Tata Steel as Procurement UK Systems Manager and as Service Transition Manager for Group Information services. He left Tata Steel in 2016 to work as a part-time consultant.
Tudor was appointed as Member Nominated Director to the Trustee Board in 2019. His hobbies include spending time with his grandchildren, playing guitar and travelling.
Kathy Bromley (Company Secretary)
Kathy joined Sony in 2006 and joined the Trustee Board shortly afterwards. Kathy is based in Weybridge and works in Legal Affairs Europe supporting CPE, ISE and SGFA as well as acting as joint company secretary of Sony Europe B.V. and providing data privacy legal advice across the business.
Outside of work, Kathy enjoys spending time with her three small children and being a scout leader.
Roy Douglas (European Pension & Benefits Manager)
Roy started his HR/Pensions and Benefits career working for an oil company in South Africa. His UK experience includes working for a Pensions Administrator before moving to Citigroup and State Street Bank where he was involved in Pensions and Benefits Management. Roy joined Sony in February 2013 as the Benefits and Pensions Manager and has a Europe wide remit.
